CHUKA OBELE-CHUKA: BEHOLD THE VICTOR UMEH CAMPAIGN DG!

The name "Chuka Obele-Chuka" needs no introduction in the socio-political lexicon of contemporary Nigeria. The gadfly was once called the Gani Faweinmi of the Southeast. He is a fearless activist and a fiery lawyer. He was among the radical Nigerians who dared the military and took to the streets to protest the annulment of the June 12, 1993 election. While Easterners in Lagos were fleeing to the East, Obele-Chuka took a bus from East to streets of Lagos to demonstrate against the abortion of the democratic process.

In 1998, dissatisfied with the bleak state of the nation, Obele-Chuka embarked on two day one man demonstration against the murderous regime of Gen. Sani Abacha. Expectedly, he was swiftly detained by the goons of the Sani Abacha iron fist regime. That did not deter Obele -Chuka though.

The taking over of Anambra State by the PDP in the Fourth Republic ushered in a despicable brand of godfatherism that saw the commonwealth of the state distributed among government officials and party stalwarts all over the country with virtually nothing left for the common man in the state. Things became so bad that the governor never bothered to pay workers. Schools all over the state were closed for over one year, yet the governor was not bothered. The then Chairman of Nigerian Bar Association, Onitsha Branch Obiorah Igwe and his deputy, Chuka Obele-Chuka gave the governor an ultimatum to pay the workers and reopen the schools. In the ensuing tension Igwe and his wife were murdered by the agents of that government in cold blood. Obele-Chuka was targeted but like the child of destiny who took a bath with okra water, he continued to elude his would be assassins.

EKWUNIFE: THE CAMPAIGN OF A RASCAL

http://newsexpressngr.com/images/news/thumbnails/uche_ekwunife_510x350.gif
Last week, Victor Umeh's campaign billboards of were defaced at a village in Agukwu, Uche Ekwunife's home town. All fingers pointed in Ekwunife's direction. Few days ago, campaign billboards of Victor Umeh were again defaced at Ezinano Junction, near Agukwu. Again all fingers pointed at Uche Ekwunife. It is not the first time Uche Ekwunife is on the news for defacing her opponent's campaign posters and billboards. It has been a recurring decimal in her campaign strategies through the years.

There has to be an end to impunity. Ekwunife needs to be reminded that impunity and desperation cannot fetch her Anambra Central Senatorial seat; neither can rascality fetch the senate seat for her. The way Hon. Uche Ekwunife has conducted her campaign so far is nothing short of a campaign of a rascal. It has been a bouquet of namedropping, vicious lies, blackmails and desperation. Even the deepest pit of hell would marvel at the ease with which Ekwunife dishes out vicious lies against the person of Chief Victor Umeh and the APGA government in Anambra State. Even the Governor of the state, Chief Willie Obiano and his family has not been spared by Ekwunife's yarn of lies. There was nothing Ekwunife did not spin up in her bid to unseat the governor through frivolous petitions. On failing in her bid, she migrated to PDP knowing fully well that she had squandered the goodwill APGA bequeathed her. To cover her tracks, Ekwunife went to town with a plethora of lies against the National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh. As the Ndigbo say, 'he who cast himself out of out of the boat is always quick to say that the boat could not contain him'. Ekwunife spewed ridiculous tales on why she left APGA, when it was obvious to all and sundry that her naked ambition drove her out of APGA.

Sir Victor Umeh - Owner of the Game

Straining against the leash of slavery and segregationist America, Fredrick Douglas, foremost African American abolitionist once thundered at his fellow blacks this way – “It is not light that we need, but fire; it is not the gentle wind, but thunder. We need the storm, the whirlwind, and the earthquake.” A fiery speaker, Douglas stood out in his day as a charismatic speaker with a blade for a tongue. Nothing in recent political memory invokes the fullness of Fredrick Douglas ’plangent plea as the personality of Chief Victor Umeh, the National Chairman of APGA.

Since emerging on the political landscape like a force of nature, Victor Umeh has established himself as the true owner of the political game, East of the Niger. This Agulu Uzigbo born lawyer reminds me of what the Father of African Literature, Chinua Achebe, said of the engaging novelist, Chimamanda Adichie on the blurb of her monumental novel, Half of a Yellow Sun. Impressed with the immense narrative skills that the young writer had shown in the novel, great Achebe had described her as being imbued with the gift of ancient storytellers and further enthused that “Adichie came almost fully made.” Similarly, in the political theater of South Eastern Nigeria, Chief Victor Umeh came almost fully made.

Blessed with the oratorical skills of Nigeria’s First Republic politicians, Victor Umeh comes across as the political maestro of the East; a sound mind in a sound body, carrying himself with so much colour and panache that you wonder why some less prepared adversaries ever contemplate taking him on at all. While Umeh’s charisma and political sagacity are the dread of his enemies, his earthy wisdom, mental alertness and uncanny ability to memorize names and faces stand him out as a leader to watch out for. In truth, Sir Victor Umeh packs the quite energy of a whirlwind and the wisdom of a serpent in one fell swoop. No wonder why for a whole decade and more, Chief Umeh sits atop the political chess game of the South East like the statue of a Buddha, looming over the entire horizon and eclipsing many luminous stars in his home state of Anambra. No wonder too, why Umeh packs a total of eighteen honorary chieftaincy titles garnered across the entire South Eastern region from towns and communities that have seen the rise of his sun as a leader of note.

APGA Holds Special National Convention Tomorrow

As part of its strategy to build on recent gains in the form of increasing membership across the South East and parts of the country and the successful primaries in readiness for the next elections, ‎the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is set to hold its Special National Convention on December 17, 2014 in Awka, Anambra State.

Information from the party office Awka, indicates that the Special Convention is expected to provide an opportunity to APGA and party faithful to fine-tune strategies for the elections‎ and assuage the feeling of some members who may have niggling complains on the outcome of some of the primaries, so as to enable APGA present a united front in the elections.

The Convention would also re-enforce the party's belief and promotion of internal democracy amongst it's fold and provide an opportunity to fine-tune it's strategies for ‎the elections.

Already, prominent members of the party have been arriving Awka for the ‎event

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) State House of Assembly Primary elections held today have been adjudged as largely peaceful and transparent in most of the state constituencies across Anambra State.

This assessment was made by the Executive Director of Media Ethics and Rights Initiative, an Onitsha based responsible journalism advocacy group, Prince Ezekiel Amanambu, while speaking to newsman in Awka after monitoring the election in many Local Government Areas.

The responsible journalism advocate said that his group took it upon itself to monitor the APGA Primary elections following the interest generated in the build-up to the elections and the renewed interest in party primaries noticed across the political divide.

2015: THE STRIDES OF APGA

The All Progressives Grand Alliance, no doubt is one of the political parties that are entering the 2015 electoral duel from a position of strength. From the fringes and the margins the All Progressives Grand Alliance has manoeuvred itself into a position of political strength. APGA started its political skirmishes on the outskirts of the Nigerian politics but has through dogged efforts of its robust leadership over the years, established itself as one of the tripods of the Nigerian politics. In 2003, APGA was all but dead. It was schemed out of political power by the bullying People’s Democratic Party in almost all areas it was winning save Anambra. At the end of a three year epic legal battle, APGA wrested Anambra State from the iron jaws of the PDP. By the calculations of the powers that be, APGA was not intended to exercise power but to look over power for a few months pending the emergence of Mr Obasanjo’s favoured servant. PDP suzerainty over Anambra seemed almost like a fait accompli. The next gubernatorial election was just months away; the House of Assembly was peopled by the PDP; an almost lawless president declared the election a do-or-die affair. The political atmosphere was turbo charged. But APGA weathered it all. Impeachment did come and go but APGA remained on the throne. The APGA government went ahead to complete its rightful four year tenure, broke the jinx and for the first time in the history of the old and new Anambra State did indeed win a re-election. The usual political noisemakers were there. Mischief makers and name droppers worked overtime. Yet, APGA floored them all. The challengers were giants. Yet APGA carried the day.

PETER OBI: A DISASTER WELL MANAGED

PETER OBI: A DISASTER WELL MANAGED
Our attention has been drawn by the tissue of lies by Peter Obi’s lackey and spin doctor, Mr Valentine Obienyiem. It is not our intention to join issues with minions but to set the records right. That falsehood is the second nature of Mr Obienyiem needs not be restated. This nonentity that lives off Peter Obi, spinning falsehoods for his schizophrenic master to justify his hand-outs. It is symptomatic of his diseased mind to refer to the celebrated Dim Ojukwu as Peter Obi’s follower. That shows how pedestrian and how low these minions can be. It is also symptomatic of the megalomania of his paymaster, Mr Peter Obi.

The undeniable fact is that prior to the anointing and making of Peter Obi by APGA, Peter Obi was an unknown quantity. Chief Sir Victor Umeh was already a national officer in PDP even before the formation of APGA. He led Peter Obi by the hand into APGA. But for Chief Victor Umeh, Peter Obi might not have made headline in any national daily till date. Mr Peter Obi is all he is today courtesy of APGA. APGA made Peter Obi. He is, and will continue to unravel like a park of cards. Chief Victor Umeh was already an accomplished architect prior to his joining partisan politics. Everybody who is somebody on the political terrain knows that Ohamadike Victor Umeh has been the engine house of APGA. If not for him, Peter Obi would not have survived 2003 governorship election petition tribunal.

An Epistle Chronicling Peter Obi’s Unremitting Mortal Sins Against APGA

From age to age such kind of responsibility has always fallen upon great philosophers to look the king in his very countenance and reprimand him. To this, many great philosophers have experienced persecutions in its wake. Shall we recount the agonies of the poisoned thinker of Athens—Socrates—or the banishment of Anaxagoras or the torturing of Zeno. I too have a crystal reminiscence of the execution of Severinus Boethius, the Nero’s killing of Seneca and the brutal decapitation of Thomas Moore, to mention but a few. Their crimes have the semblance of the crime of Jesus before the ignorant Jews of those days. This crime which I shall not in any way spare contemplation or fear to commit against a king that has executed much evil against the ordinary man even against a political party so dear to Igboland. It is my duty, I ween, an eternal obligation of the righteous, to bring to the open the sins of the wicked. I may not be alone in this judgment. But one thing is to be noticed my judgment must be guided by the illumination of reason. What I have just expressed is that the onus of chronicling the mortal sins of the wicked, even of the king of our day falls upon me. This sole task shall this piece undertake to accomplish.

A Tale of Two Peters: The Story of Betrayal

There is an Igbo saying, that a person's name influences him. Little wonder, though Judas is a name available in Christianity, no one takes it as a baptismal name, apparently because of the lot of Judas Iscariot in the bible, who betrayed his Master and Saviour of mankind, Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

Peter is a name that presents a paradox of both strong and weak in the bible.
