Scores of football lovers in Anambra
State under the aegis of Concerned Football Stakeholders yesterday protested
the alleged plot to impose a candidate for the forthcoming Chairmanship election
of Anambra football Association to be organized by the Nigeria Football
Federation.
The protesters who were mainly
drawn from major cities of Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi and Ekwulobia said some big
names in Anambra are conniving with the football Glass House to manipulate the
State FA election.
“When our election could not hold
like others, we beckoned on the NFF to assist. They should not kill us but
assist.” Said Onyeka Onwumelu, the organising secretary of the group.
Onyeka alleged that the harmonization
team sent by the NFF had done their job warning that the extra gimmicks to
install a choice candidate by the Glass House will fail.
According to Afoma Ben, who led the
Onitsha zone, “The Chairmanship seat has been a subject of controversy because they
intend to play wayo. We want to have an open contest supervised by the relevant
bodies to pick our Chairman. But NFF led by Pinnick is trying to impose a
candidate who is not the choice of the people.”
He wondered why a man who claims to
be qualified would not subject himself to a democratic election.
The protesters called on the State Government
to address their grievances and live up to the “Challenge” by ensuring that a
foreigner does not connive with prodigals to destroy football in the State.
Further investigation revealed that
the NFF Chairman, Pinnick has concluded plans to ensure the emergence of Chief
Ifeanyi Uba as the new FA Chairman of Anambra State against the wishes of the
qualified delegates who insist that Chief Uba has no experience in football management.
Calls put across to both Chief
Ifeanyi Uba and the management of Ifeanyi Uba FC did not go through.
Meanwhile, there are worries in the
state why would Ifeanyi Uba want to chair Anambra Football Association when he
is running for governorship position come 2017. Some say he is scheming for
better positioning while others say he just power drunk.
What does this man really want?
